For years Elvis Spadoni’s signature style has been tied to large, luminous, brilliant-white surfaces, from which silent figures emerge, always painted from an attentive observation of reality. In this chasuble a young lamb, depicted standing as a sign of Resurrection – “it is a living lamb”, the artist notes – reveals itself in a twofold symbolic power: if on the one hand it recalls the sacrifice of Christ, the immolated lamb, on the other it is a symbol of humanity, for whom Christ, the good shepherd, gives his life. For this reason Spadoni chose to paint the lamb on the priest’s chest, to emphasise his fundamental role as a shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep
