Intervention of conservationist restoration of a roman chasuble from the eighteenth century, in pinkish silk with embroidery in silver metallic yarn and polychrome silk.
The surface is covered with a light layer of dust that dries and makes dry fibers, also are visible on the chasuble’s center of abrasions covered with unsuitable patches. Instead, the perimeter silver gallons have many areas with loose and frayed wefts.
The restoration intervention aims to consolidate the degradation and to secure the object.
Restoration phases:
Partial disassembly of packaging, lining and stolons
Suction and elimination of particulate deposits on the front and back of all tissues through an aspiration with micro-aspirator at controlled speed and protective filter nets
Washing with neutral ph cleaning solution. Cleaning of the gallon by brushes and sponges in natural rubber with high absorbent power.
Reconstruction of the decors degraded, application of micro protective net to protect the most damaged areas and application of a new lining.
